NY Art

"Untitled" by Tara McPherson
Tara McPherson is an NYC-based artist. I'd go into more detail, but her website sums it up pretty well: "She has created numerous gig posters for rock bands such as Beck, Modest Mouse, and Melvins. Her array of art also includes creating toys with companies like Kidrobot, Dark Horse, and Toy2R, painted comics and covers for DC Vertigo, advertising and editorial illustrations for companies such as Wyde and Spin Magazine, and teaching a class at Parsons in NYC." Personally, I just love that she uses a lot of redheads in her art.

"Untitled Sculpture #4" by Matt Wycoff
Matt Wycoff is a Brooklyn artist (woo Brooklyn!) whose work is currently on display at Hogar Collection in Williamsburg April 17-May 18. As L Magazine puts it, "He engages a playful dialog with American minimalism, updating its claims of pure formalism with tilted, lop-sided and propped-up structures." F*ck symmetry.

and we're back!

So I've been gone for a while. Sorry about that. For those of you who don't know already, I've been living in NYC since mid-January! Unfortunately, I haven't had a lot of time to check out art shows--a problem that I will remedy starting this weekend.

Quick rundown: I lived on the Lower East Side in Manhattan for two months then moved to Bushwick in Brooklyn. I work for a non-profit in Harlem. I graduate with my Master of Public Health (MPH) degree last weekend. I am currently looking for a full time job in the public health field. I'll move pretty much anywhere.

That's it. Artsy updates to come.

Gainesville Art

I bought this print ("60s Chick") yesterday from Store 101 here in Gainesville. It's by Erik Jones. For those of you who live in the 'ville, you should definitely check out Store 101. Located on Main Street (north of University, across from my second home--The Top), they've got some really cool clothes and a gallery upstairs. If you get there soon, you can check out Erik Jones's work. It's pretty amazing--my personal favorite is "Bride".

So yeah, support local businesses and get some cool stuff. Don't be boring.

Summer in the City by Regina Spektor

Summer in the city
Means cleavage, cleavage, cleavage

And I started miss you, baby, sometimes

I've been staying up drinking
In the late night establishments
Telling strangers personal things

Summer in the city
I'm so lonely, lonely, lonely

So I went to a protest
just to rub up against strangers
And I did feel like coming
but I also felt like crying
And it doesn't seem so worth it right now

And the castrated ones stand in the corner smoking
They wan't to feel the bulges in their pants start to rise
At the sight of a beautiful woman
They feel nothing
but anger
Her skin makes them sick in the night

Nauseaous, nauseaous, nauseaous...

Summer in the city
I'm so lonely, lonely, lonely

I've been hallucinating you, babe
at the backs of other women
And I tap 'em on the shoulder
and they turn around smiling but
there's no recognition in their eyes

Oh, summer in the city!
Means cleavage, cleavage, cleavage

Don't get me wrong, dear
In general I'm doing quite fine

It's just when it's summer in the city
and you are so long gone from the city I start to miss you, baby, sometimes...

When it's summer in the city
and you are so long gone from the city
I start to miss you. Baby. Sometimes.

Ooh, I start to miss you, baby, sometimes
